Ubisoft Announces ‘New Era’ For Rainbow Six Siege With Major Update, Here's What We Know

The major update, titled Rainbow Six Siege X, will be unveiled during a dedicated showcase event on March 13.

Ubisoft has announced a significant update for its popular tactical shooter, Rainbow Six Siege, marking the beginning of a “new era” with the launch of Rainbow Six Siege X. The upcoming changes, which will be detailed in a special showcase next month, promise to overhaul gameplay with deeper tactical elements and new content. Originally launched in 2015 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Rainbow Six Siege has continued to evolve through regular updates over the years.

Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Set For March 13

The major update, titled Rainbow Six Siege X, will be unveiled during a dedicated showcase event on March 13. According to Ubisoft, the update will mark a pivotal shift in the game's direction, aiming to redefine its tactical gameplay and introduce new ways to engage with the experience. The event will be broadcast live from Atlanta, Georgia, at 5 PM GMT / 6 PM CET (10:30 PM IST), and is expected to give players and creators a first look at the enhancements coming to the game.

Ubisoft clarified that Rainbow Six Siege X is not a sequel but a comprehensive upgrade designed to set “the stage for the years to come of tactical and unique gameplay.” The company described the upcoming changes in a blog post on Monday that read, “The R6 team has been working tirelessly to bring to life the biggest transformation in the game's history and its purpose is to reinforce Rainbow Six Siege's position at the top of tactical first-person shooters by introducing new ways to play, deepened tactical gameplay, refined game feel and major upgrades all around.”

A brief teaser for Rainbow Six Siege X accompanied the announcement, though it offered few details about the gameplay changes.

Celebrating 10 Years of Siege With Major Changes

The Siege X update coincides with the game’s upcoming 10-year anniversary. During Ubisoft’s third-quarter earnings call for 2024–25, the company hinted that the development team at Ubisoft Montreal was working on “something significant” to celebrate the milestone.

Expressing gratitude to the game’s loyal player base, Ubisoft shared its excitement for the upcoming showcase and wrote, “Rainbow Six Siege wouldn't be where it is without the dedicated community that rallies behind it. We can't wait to reveal everything soon and hope that Siege X not only reinforces what you love about it, but gets you as excited for its future as we are.”

A Decade Of Growth For Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege launched in 2015 to a lukewarm commercial reception but gradually built a strong and dedicated community. Ubisoft has supported the title with consistent content updates, gameplay improvements, and live events. In 2021, the company announced that the game had surpassed 75 million registered players across platforms, marking a significant achievement for the tactical shooter.

With the Rainbow Six Siege X showcase approaching, all eyes are on Ubisoft to see how the game’s largest update to date will shape its future for years to come.
