Rishabh Pant brutally trolled for his lapses behind the stumps

Pant’s keeping came under heavy criticism after he spilt a couple of chances which cost India dearly. Such was the ordeal of Pant that the capacity crowd at Mohali started to chant Dhoni’s name, who was rested for the final two ODIs of the series.

The day started on a decent note for Rishabh Pant. Coming in to bat at No. 5, he hit a six and four boundaries before getting out caught for 36 off 24 balls at a time when India needed quick runs. But as the day progressed, Pant’s performance graph started to go in the wrong direction.

Pant’s keeping came under heavy criticism after he spilt a couple of chances which cost India dearly. Such was the ordeal of Pant that the capacity crowd at Mohali started to chant Dhoni’s name, who was rested for the final two ODIs of the series.

In the 44th over of the Australian innings, Pant failed to gather the ball cleanly after Ashton Turner had charged down the wicket. Turner was only on 38 when he was given that lifeline by Pant and he went on to smash an unbeaten 84 off just 43 balls helping Australia chase down their highest total (359) in ODIs and level the five-match series 2-2.

To make matters worse, Pant failed miserably in trying to emulate Dhoni’s blind flick run out a couple of balls later. Chahal had yorked Alex Carey in the third ball of the  44th over and seeing the Australian keeper look to steal a quick single Pant picked up the ball and flicked it. The ball, however, was way off target and to Pant’s worse nightmare, that even allowed the Australian pair to sneak a single.

When asked about India’s failed stumping chances in the post-match presentation, Kohli said: “Crucial (about the stumping chance), we were sloppy in the field and should’ve grabbed our chances.”

Pant was brutally trolled on social media for his lapses behind the stumps.
