'We Switched Off IPL Lights': Pak Defence Minister's Bizarre Cyber Attack Boast - WATCH

In a startling statement in Parliament, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged that Pakistani "cyber warriors" had successfully hacked floodlight systems during IPL matches.

Pakistan, a country frequently plagued by its own electricity shortages, is now claiming it has the capability to remotely shut down floodlights in Indian cricket stadiums.

In a startling statement in Parliament, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged that Pakistani "cyber warriors" had successfully hacked floodlight systems during IPL matches — and had even gained access to the control mechanisms of Indian dams.

Bizarre Pakistani Cyber Claims

The bizarre claim surfaced just weeks after India launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 — a military retaliation against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April.

While Pakistan has offered no technical evidence to support the claim, the announcement has drawn widespread skepticism, especially considering the country's own ongoing struggles with nationwide power outages. The statement seems as an attempt to distract from internal failures or to project cyber capabilities in the wake of India's firm military response.

When Air Raid Scare Halted IPL Match in Dharamsala

As India launched "Operation Sindoor", this escalated cross-border tensions, directly impacting the IPL 2025 season.

During a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, the stadium floodlights unexpectedly went out during the 11th over. Initially believed to be a technical glitch, it was quickly confirmed to be an air raid alert due to heightened security concerns near the border.

Emergency protocols were immediately activated, leading to the rapid and safe evacuation of both players and spectators from the venue. Back the, amidst the escalating conflict and regional blackouts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to suspend Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week, prioritizing player and public safety.

Days later, IPL 2025 reached a successful and historic end as RCB won the coveted trophy for the first time in 18 years of the tournament.
