Mumbai School All-out For 7 In Harris Shield; All Batsmen Out For Duck

Thanks to those 7 extras that helped Children Welfare school putting something on the scoreboard

The game of cricket is full of uncertainties – bewildering the viewers with every ball bowled. That’s how histories are scripted and matches stay in memories. Something similar happened in Mumbai on Wednesday which will be remembered as one of the bizarre encounters in the history of Mumbai's inter-school Harris Shield tournament. Playing against Borivali’s Swami Vivekanand School, Children Welfare, Andheri set a dubious record as the entire team was bundled up on a total of 7 in a first-round match. To everyone’s surprise, all the 10 batters got out on duck while the one who remained not-out failed to open his account too. Thanks to those 7 extras that helped Children Welfare school putting something on the scoreboard. This came in response chasing 761/3 in 39 overs. Swami Vivekanand’s Meet Mayekar scored an unbeaten 338 off 134 balls, with 56 fours and seven sixes. In the following innings, their seamer Alok Pal scalped six for three in three overs. Children Welfare were extremely unfortunate that they were penalised 156 runs for not completing their quota of 45 overs in the stipulated time. Several media reports claim that something like this has happened for the first time in Mumbai school cricket. After the match, Swami Vivekanand coach Mahesh Lotlikar was sympathetic towards the losing side and said “I guess our batting may have taken them mentally down when they went in. We’ve bowled out teams for 60-70, but never seen such a thing happen in school cricket.”
