LPL 2024 Qualifier 1: Galle Marvels continue their splendid run in the tournament, as they qualify for the final. Here are the details. Read below.

LPL 2024 Qualifier 1: Galle Marvels continue to prove their mettle in the ongoing Lanka Premier League 2024, as the Niroshan Dickwella-led side defeated record-champions Jaffna Kings in Qualifier 1 to become the first side to qualfiy for the final of LPL 2024. The Marvels did well with the ball to restrict the Kings for merely 177 runs, after the 3-time champions got off to a good start via handy knocks from their top order.

However, Charitra Asalanka's side failed to stop the wrath of Tim Seifert and Janith Liyanage, as Galle Marvels sailed their way past the target of 178 to register an emphatic 7-wicket win to progress into the final.

For his exceptional performances throughout the match, South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius was given the 'Man of the Match' award.

"Yeah I think at this venue its very tough to bowl at. We need to bowl at good line and length. The ball was stopping at the surface so I was changing my pace off at the death overs. We sat down as a bowling group that if we win the powerplay we will be on top of the game against the batting. Really happy with the way the game went out today for our side," said Dwaine Pretorius.

Here's What Both The Captains Said During Post-Match Presentation Ceremony

Niroshan Dickwella (Galle Marvels Captain) :

"Well we wanted to give Janith an opportunity and we thought of giving him a permanent spot at Number 4 and Bhanuka at Number 5. Really happy with the way we played the game tonight. We made a few changes and there are so much competition in our squad because of the way our players were playing but we took the right decisions for our side."

Charith Asalanka (Jaffna Kings Captain):

"Yeah, we have another match but we need to be more responsible in all three departments. I must take responsibility for losing this game because had I taken that catch things could have been different. I think I dropped a very important catch and let my team down. It was a defendable score but could have score 10-15 more runs."
