Ishan Kishan Reveals It Was Virat Kohli Who Initiated His Promotion To No. 4 In IND vs WI 2nd Test

Ishan Kishan got to his half-century off just 33 balls and almost on prompt, India captain Rohit Sharma called the batters back with the team having set West Indies a target of 365 to win.

Ishan Kishan scored a rapid half-century in the second IND vs WI Test match at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad. While the wicketkeeper-batter was batting lower down the order in his first two Test innings, known for his flamboyant style of play in white-ball cricket, Kishan was promoted to the number 4 position with India looking for an early declaration to push for a win in the rain-affected fixture.

Kishan got to his half-century off just 33 balls and almost on prompt, India captain Rohit Sharma called the batters back with the team having set West Indies a target of 365 to win. Post that, Ravichandran Ashwin gave the team a couple of breakthroughs with Windies ending the day on 76/2, needing 289 more runs to win.

After the day's play, Kishan revealed that it was Virat Kohli who initiated his promotion to number 4. He disclosed with a left-arm spinner in the attack he being a left-handed was encouraged to go up the order and go after the bowling.

"It was really special (the half-century). I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me 'go and play your game'. Let us hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told me that I should go in. There was a slow left-armer who was bowling. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls," said Kishan after the day's play.

"We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs. We wanted a 370-380 target. I was at NCA before this. Pant was also there. He knows how I play. We have known each other for under-19 days. I also wanted someone to advise me and luckily he was there to tell me something about my bat positioning," he added.
