IPL Auction 2020: Maxwell Re-unites With KXIP As Star All-rounder Fetches Rs 10.75 cr
Glenn Maxwell was snapped up by Kings Eleven Punjab for a whopping Rs 10.75 crores in the Indian Premier League auctions held in Kolkata
Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made an emphatic comeback into the IPL after he was picked up by Kings Eleven Punjab for a whopping Rs 10.75 crores in the IPL auctions currently being held in Kolkata.
The hard hitting Aussie batsman made a reunion of sorts with his old franchise KXIP, for whom he donned the jersey from 2014 and 2017. The Victorian all-rounder recently made a return his return to cricket after taking a break owing to mental health issues in October. Maxwell, who had a base price of Rs. 2 crore was heavily bid by Kings Eleven Punjab and Delhi Daredevils, with the former eventually buying him for Rs. 10.75 crore.
His teammate Pat Cummins, meanwhile, became the most expensive overseas player in the history of IPL, as he was sold for Rs. 15.5 crore to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Maxwell was not the part of the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League after he had poor outings with Delhi Capitals. Incidentally, both the sides were involved in a bidding war with each other for the acquisition of the Australian all-rounder, as KXIP won the race for Maxwell.
The Australian players were much in demand in the first two rounds of the auction as opener Chris Lynn was sold on his base price of Rs. 2 crore. Mumbai Indians bought the explosive Aussie opener Aaron Finch, meanwhile, was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 4.4 crore.
