Rahane, Gayle, Tahir Lucrative Buys In IPL 2020 Mid-Season Transfer; Your Guide Into Rules, Window, Eligible Players

With the play-offs battle now heating up at the business end of the IPL 2020 season, all eight teams would look to make most of the mid-season transfer which got underway from Tuesday (October 13) and plug any holes or overcome any chinks in their armor with a bid to put forth their strongest possible challenge and qualify for the knockouts.

The ongoing thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) being staged in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has now entered into its second half and more importantly the business end after 28 matches of the round robin stage in the marquee T20 league were completed with RCB vs KKR game at Sharjah on October 12 (Monday) With the first half of the tournament done and dusted, the eight franchises battling it out for the coveted IPL title have had a good look at the opposition, the playing conditions on offer and accessed their own strengths and weaknesses based on the spree of results they have strung together in the opening 3 weeks. In a first of its kinds, the mid season transfer window in Season 13 of the IPL will not just be restricted to uncapped players but will also have capped players thrown into the fray.Hence the franchises have a much wider and experienced pool of players to chose from in the transfer period. The mid season transfer window will be in place for a period of 5 days from October 13 to October 17. A closer look at the pool of players eligible for mid-season transfer features some major T20 stalwarts like Chris Gayle (KXIP), Ajinkya Rahane, Alex Carey and Sandeep Lamicchane (DC), , Imran Tahir and Josh Hazlewood (CSK), Dale Steyn, Moeen Ali and  Mohammad Siraj (RCB); all of whom haven't made the cut into the playing XIs of their respective franchises in the opening half of the tournament. While these big names could be high up on the buying bucket of franchises, it will have to be seen if the franchises which they represent in the ongoing season will be willing to release them at the first place. So let us understand what are the rules for mid-season transfer in IPL 2020 Only players who have played two or lesser matches for their respective franchise in the first half of IPL 2020 will be eligible for transfer. Both teams have to mutually agree on the transfer deal. The player will only be loaned out to another franchise and would to his original side at the end of the season. Fees of the players The original franchise will get a mutually agreed money from the receiving franchise which is not subject to the salary cap of the player. The first fifty per cent of the loan fee will be paid within the first seven days of registration and the remainder within seven days of the final game. The loanee will also be disallowed to play against his original side in the return-leg fixture.
