New Delhi: India’s 2011 World Cup hero, Gautam Gambhir opines that if their women counterparts manage to beat England in the final on Sunday, it will be bigger than what his side had achieved six years ago.

India had won the 2011 men’s World Cup after a wait of 28 years, but Gambhir thinks there is huge difference as they were the favourties to lift the cup but that is not the case with Mithali’s team.

"I genuinely believe that if they go on to win this World Cup, this is going to be bigger than India winning the men's 2011 World Cup. Because back then, we were the favourites to win the title at home," said Gambhir, who had made a match winning 97 in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

This only the second occasion when the Indian eves have managed to reach the World Cup final. The last time Australia got the better of them in 2005.

"Indian women reaching the final has inspired a lot of girls in the country. They are on step away from creating history," Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.
