India Tour Of Zimbabwe: Stand-in coach VVS Laxman and captain Shubman Gill-led young T20I squad leaves for Zimbabwe for five-match T20I series.

India Tour Of Zimbabwe: Following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, the team’s second-string squad led by Shubman Gill departed for Zimbabwe on July 2 (Tuesday) for an upcoming T20I series. The official social media handle of the country's apex cricket board, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, shared photos of interim coach VVS Laxman, skipper Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Ravi Bishnoi and others while they departed for Zimbabwe.

The five-match T20I series between India and Zimbabwe is set to commence on July 6, with all the five T20Is set to be played at the Harare Sports Club, in the Zimbabwean capital Harare.

The BCCI shared a series of photos to announce the news to fans, captioned "Jet Set Zimbabwe." The pictures featured interim coach and NCA head VVS Laxman, along with players Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi.

Following retirements from T20Is by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, senior players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested after the T20 World Cup tournament which concluded on June 29. The BCCI had earlier named a young squad for the Zimbabwe tour, appointing Shubman Gill as captain after his stint as a reserve in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Notable performers from IPL 2024 such as Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Tushar Deshpande are in line to make their T20I debuts for India. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad have been included in the 15-member squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.

With Rahul Dravid concluding his tenure as head coach, BCCI has appointed VVS Laxman as the stand-in coach for the Zimbabwe tour.
