'Go Hammer West Indies 2-0, 3-0 Whatever...': Sunil Gavaskar Lambasts Team India. WATCH

Sunil Gavaskar, one of the most respected voices in Indian cricket, was highly disappointed with India's poor outing in London at the World Test Championship final.

Team India's dream of winning their maiden WTC Final was shattered after they suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. While Australia became the first team to win a final trophy across all ICC tournaments, India are yet to win an ICC final in the last 10 years. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar, one of the most respected voices in Indian cricket, is among many who are highly disappointed after India's poor outing in London at the World Test Championship final against Australia. Questioning India's approach, Gavskar talked about all the major factors that the entire unit has to work on.

"I have been in the teams where we have been knocked out at 42 and we had been miserable in the change rooms. We were also criticised heavily. So, I think you cannot say that the current lot is not beyond criticism. They have to be very analytical about what happened, how they get out, why didn't they bowl well, why didn't they catch, was the selection of the Playing XI was the right thing, so all these factors have to come in," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Following the WTC Final debacle, team India will tour West Indies in July for an all-format series and are definitely the favorites to 'win it all' in the Caribbean island. A fuming Gavaskar asserted that beating teams like West Indies in bilateral series won't mean anything, if India continues to repeat mistakes they did in the WTC 2023 Final vs Australia.

"You cannot brush this under the carpet like 'yeah we have got two matches against West Indies'. West Indies are not the best team in the world. You just go and hammer them 2-0, 3-0, whatever the matches are. This doesn't mean anything because when you come across and if you go to the finals and if you are playing Australia again, making the same mistakes, then how would you win the trophy?" he added.

Earlier, Gavaskar had slammed Virat Kohli for his poor shot selection, which led to his dismissal in WTC Final on Day 5, which was one of the biggest turning points in the match as well.

"It was a pretty ordinary shot. Outside the off stump. He was leaving till then. Maybe he was conscious that he needed one run to reach his half century. It happens when you are nearing a milestone," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
