Background
IND vs WI, 1st Test LIVE: It was a clinical performance by Team India on Day 1 of the first Test match between India and West Indies being played at the Windsor park in Dominica. While West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first, the plan clearly backfired as the Indian side led by Ravichandran Ashwin managed to bowl the hosts out for just 150. Ashwin was the wrecker-in-chief as far as Team India is concerned, finishing with a five-wicket haul with figures of 5 for 60 in 24.3 overs.
Ashwin's spinning bowler partner Ravindra Jadeja was also impressive and scalped 3 wickets for 26 runs in his 14 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur picked up a wicket each while Jaydev Unadkat, even though wicketless did not leak runs either and conceded 17 runs in his 7 overs. Playing his first match, Alick Athanaze top-scored for the home team but Ashwin shattered his dream of a fifty on debut by removing him on 47.
After their great performance on the field which even saw some outstanding catching and fielding, the Indian openers continued India's superb run in the day. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained not out till the end of the day's play and came back after the team had scored 80 runs on the board, thus reducing the defecit to just 70 runs with all 10 wickets in the bag. While captain Rohit will resume his innings on 30, debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal will commence from an individual score of 40 and would look to get to his half-century before aiming to making it into a bigger score.
West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite has used five bowlers already but none have managed to find a breakthrough. If what happened in the Indian innings on Day 1 is anything to go by Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwall, Jomel Warrican and Jason Holder would be in for a long day today.
