With the help of Indian captain Virat Kohli's half-century and Cheteshwar Pujara-Ajinkya Rahane's crucial innings, India scored 233 runs after losing 6 wickets on the first day after a poor start.

India won the toss and decided to bat first, but opener Prithvi Shaw (0) was dismissed in the second ball. Mayank Agarwal also could not stay long at the crease. After this, Kohli first attained the much-needed partnership with Pujara and then he and Rahane and pushed the team to a better position.

Kohli's half-century also helped him make some special records!
From Kohli's half-century in the first innings to Cheteshwar Pujara's long and patient innings against Australian bowlers, many brilliant and unique records were made. Let's look at some of them-
1. Virat Kohli scored 74 runs in the first innings of the Adelaide Test. This was his 23rd half-century in Test cricket, while he was able to cross the fifty mark for the fourth time in Adelaide. However, this was the first time Kohli could not score a century after completing his half-century at the Adelaide Oval.
2. An 88-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane during Ind vs Aus 1st Test was their sixth fifty plus partnership aon Australian soil. The two had attained a partnership of 262 runs in Melbourne (2014-15), which is their best together. Apart from this, there was a century partnership in Adelaide.
3. Virat Kohli completed 505 runs in Adelaide with his innings of 74 runs. Kohli had earlier scored 3 centuries in Adelaide. In this way, he became the sixth Indian batsman to score more than 500 runs in a foreign stadium. Sachin Tendulkar (Sydney, Colombo, Nottingham), VVS Laxman (Sydney), Pauli Umrigar (Port of Spain), Sunil Gavaskar (Port of Spain) and Dilip Vengsarkar (Lord's) are other Indian batters who are in this list.
4. Not only this, with his innings of 74 runs, Virat Kohli has become the Indian captain to score maximum runs against Australia. Kohli now has 851 runs and has broken the record of ex-India skipper Tiger Pataudi (829 runs).
5. Kohli has now a score of more than 50 for the 50th time in Test match. He became the eighth Indian batsman to do so in ODIs and Tests.
6. This was Kohli's 13th half-century against Australia. Only Sachin Tendulkar (13) has made more fifties than him.
7. Kohli was run out after scoring 74 runs in this innings. This was only the second time in Test cricket Virat Kohli was run out. It is a matter of coincidence that for the first time also Kohli was run out in Adelaide (2011-12).
