Two options are being considered with Sanju Samson losing the contest to KL Rahul. This is because while Samson prefers batting in the top 3, there is no place for a batter in that position in the Indian team for the World Cup. Rahul, by contrast, can bat in the middle-order eveb as he continues to open in IPL 2024.
The other matter being debated by the national selection commitee is the form of Hardik Pandya and his bowling fitness. However, despite that Pandya is likely to feature in the slot.
