Shubman Gill's India Beat England In 2nd Test, Clinch First-Ever Win At Edgbaston

India’s victory over England ends a 68-year-long drought at Edgbaston, where they had failed to win a Test in their previous eight attempts since 1967.

Team India created history at Edgbaston as they registered their first-ever Test victory at the iconic venue, defeating England by a massive 336-run margin in the second Test of the five-match series. It was a dominant all-round performance from the visitors, who outplayed England in every department to level the series 1-1.

India’s victory over England has also ended a 68-year-long drought at Edgbaston, where they had failed to win a Test in their previous eight attempts since 1967. This historic triumph marks their first-ever Test win at the iconic Birmingham venue.

Gill’s majestic 269, Akash's 10 wickets

India set the tone early in the match with a commanding first innings total of 587, powered by Shubman Gill’s majestic 269 and key contributions from the middle order. England, in response, were bowled out for 407 despite a fighting century from Joe Root. India’s pace trio, led by Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, kept England under pressure throughout.

Akash Deep delivered a sensational performance, claiming 6 wickets in the second innings and 4 in the first, to complete a remarkable 10-wicket haul in the match.

With a healthy first-innings lead of 180, India came out aggressively in their second innings, piling on 427/6 declared, thanks again to Gill’s 161 in the second innings. The 25-year-old opener, who ended the match with 430 runs, was rightly named Player of the Match for one of the finest batting performances in recent Test history.

England crumbles under pressure

Faced with a record target of 608, England’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure. India’s bowlers, led by Siraj and supported by spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, bundled out the hosts for just 257 on the final day, securing a thumping victory by 350 runs.

This victory holds special significance for India, not only because it came at Edgbaston—a venue where they had never won a Test before—but also because it showcased their ability to dominate in foreign conditions with both bat and ball.
