Joe Root Comes Out To Bat After Remaining Out Of Action On Day 3
In a similar instance, England's Joe Root had remained out of action on Day 3 as a precautionary measure. It was later confirmed that Root had injured his finger while fielding and therefore went off the field to ice his little finger. James Anderson after the end of the day's play had confirmed that Root was likely to come out to bat if the need arises on Day 4 and out he came at the fall of Ollie Pope.
Having said that, there is no confirmation yet on how serious Gill's injury is and whether there it has cast dark shadows over his participation in the remaining matches of the series. In case it is a minor injury, Gill would have time to recover with India no longer required to bat in this Test and over a week's gap between the second Test in Vizag and the third Test set to commence at the Saurashtra Cricket Assocition Stadium in Rajkot on February 15.
The BCCI has not yet announced India's squad for the final Three Test matches of the series.
