IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma On The Cusp Of Historic Record, Could Join Tendulkar, Kohli In Elite Group
IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma is closing in on two historic records and could break one or both of them in the series beginning on September 19 (Thursday).
Rohit Sharma, the India captain, is currently gearing up for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh all set to commence at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday (September 19). The Men in Blue have reached the venue a good few days before the start of the 1st Test with Team India having enjoyed a good 45-day break in the international cricket calendar. The second Test between the two nations is scheduled to be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
The series is important for the hosts as they look to secure a place in their third successive World Test Championship (WTC) final, having lost to New Zealand and Australia in the WTC 2021 and 2023 finals respectively. Moreover, the Bangladesh Test series is also the first Test series for Gautam Gambhir as the head coach and the new coach along with Rohit would want to make a mark and continue to win many more ICC titles in the coming time.

Rohit Sharma Two Centuries Short Of 50 International Tons
Indian skipper Rohit has been in the fine form in the ongoing ICC WTC 2023-25 and has scored 700 runs in nine matches, averaging 46.66 with the help of three tons and as many half-centuries. He is on the cusp of two major records ahead of the India vs Bangladesh Tests. Rohit needs only more sixes to get past Virender Sehwag to become the Indian batter with most sixes in Tests.
Rohit is already the batter with most sixes in international cricket and if he gets past Sehwag in Test cricket, it would further cement his status as one of the greatest six hitters in world cricket. Sehwag had smashed 91 sixes in his international career. On the other hand, Rohit has 84 sixes already. Currently, the overall top two six hitters in Test cricket are Brendon McCullum (107) and Adam Gilchrist (100). With both of them having retired from the sport, it is only a matter of time before Rohit can break that record.
In addition, Rohit needs only two more centuries to complete 50 international hundreds- a stat that would make him only the third Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to achieve the feat. Meanwhile, he will become the 10th player in the world to get to that number with Tendulkar leading the charts with 100 international tons and Kohli closing in with 80 tons.
