After bowling out Bangladesh for a paltry 106-run total, India began their chase in counter attacking fashion with openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal getting the team of to a breezy start with a flurry of boundaries. Against the run of play, seamer Al-Amin made the opening breakthrough by dismissing Mayank Agarwal for 14. After Agarwal's dismissal, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara played carefully in the twilight period to avoid losing any wicket till the Tea break. Indian seamers  wrecked through the Bangladesh batting order with the pink ball to bowl them out for a paltry 106 in their first innings on the opening day of the Eden Gardens Day-Night Test. The Indian pace attack  bowled a relentless line after Tea to pepper the Bangladeshi batsman with a lot of short pitch deliveries and struck the timber with effortless ease. While Ishant Sharma bowled a terrific spell to dismiss tailenders Mehidy Hasan and Ebadat Hossain in quick succession, Mohammad Shami scalped Abu Jayed to end a disappointing batting effort by the visitors. Ishant Sharma became the first Indian bowler to take a five wicket haul in Day-Night Tests.
