IND vs AUS 2nd Test, Day 3: Nathan Lyon takes five, India bundles up for 283

India was dismissed for 283 runs in the first innings on the third day of the second cricket Test against Australia on Sunday. For Australia, star spinner Nathan Lyon emerged as the player of the day. The Aussie star player led his side off the field after he dominated the day’s play, taking five for 67.

Despite of the brilliant batting performance by Pant and Kohli, and a fighting stand by Rishab Pant, Australia lead 43 runs.

Senior Indian speedster Ishant Sharma disappointed everyone as he was expected to spend some time on the pitch with Pant to get closer to Australia’s total. However, Sharma got out caught bowled; thanks to the lame shot he played like a rookie, losing control on Lyon's delivery for an easy catch.

Rishab Pant made most of the dropped catch on a delivery bowled by Cummins, who couldn’t manage to close his hands in time to grab a powerful shot smashed by Pant on first bowl of his 97th over.  Making several attempts to drive, Pant missed many outside-off deliveries from Lyon, but still managed to hit a huge six into the stand.

However, it was Lyon who emerged victorious in the battle as not only he got Pant out for 36 but also dismissed tail-ender Umesh Yadav out for just four runs; ensuring that his side ends with 43 runs lead as they head towards the second session.

India lost crucial wickets before posting 252/7 in their first innings at lunch on the third day. Rishabh Pant was batting on 14 at the break.

The visitors suffered a big blow just before the break when skipper Virat Kohli was caught in the slips off a Pat Cummings delivery. Kohli scored an excellent century in difficult circumstances that contained bucket loads of grit and determination as well as as pure class.

The Indian captain posted 123 runs off 257 balls with 13 boundaries and a six over third man. India had lost Kohli's fellow overnight batsman Ajinkya Rahane right at the start of the day. Rahane could not add to his overnight score of 51.

But Kohli and the rookie Hanuma Vihari got together to add 50 runs between them before the latter was caught behind off a sublime delivery by Josh Hazlewood.
