IND v WI: After MPCA's denial, Vizag likely to host 2nd ODI

The second ODI is scheduled to take place on September 24

Vishakhapatnam is likely to host the 2nd India vs West Indies ODI after the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) denied conducting the match following a tussle with the BCCI over free passes.

As per an India Express report, the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) has discussed the issue with the Andhra Cricket Association which has agreed to the board’s last minute request.

“Mostly it will be Vizag; the official confirmation will be made soon. They (Andhra) have agreed to the board request and we are working at the final modalities. There are a lot of things to do if the game is shifted at the last minute. Logistics, travelling, security there are many things to be finalised,” the report quoted a BCCI official as saying.

On the other hand, MPCA joint secretary Milind Kanmadikar told that the association has clarified to the Indian board for not conducting the match. “We have been waiting for a mail from the BCCI but we have not received it till now. From our (MPCA) side it’s clear that we can’t hold the match under these circumstances.”

As per the new BCCI constitution, 90 per cent tickets of the total capacity of the stadium should be put on public sale which effectively means 10 per cent of complimentary tickets left with state units.

In this case, the Holkar stadium has the capacity to accommodate 27,000 fans and MPCA will be left with 2700 complimentary tickets. The BCCI also demands its share of free passes for its sponsors and thus the bone of contention.

"We cannot accept BCCI's demand for hospitality tickets. We have only 7000 seats in the pavilion (hospitality) gallery and going by 10 per cent, we would be left with only 700 seats. Now if we give five per cent of that, we are left with only 350 hospitality tickets,' Kanmadikar said.
