'He Has Been A Leader': Sachin Tendulkar Praises Rohit Sharma's 'Other Side Of Temperament'

Rohit Sharma jumped from 54th rank in Tests to 6th. It is a testimony to Rohit's constant performances. See what Tendulkar had to say about Rohit.

Indian batting legend, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has praised opening batsman Rohit Sharma for his recent display of temperamental batting in tough English conditions. Tendulkar said that Rohit Sharma has "definitely gone a notch higher". Rohit has scores of 36, 12*, 83, and 21 in the two Test matches so far in England. He was always a good batsman, but Tendulkar feels that his temperament has improved immensely.

“Whatever I have seen, I feel he has taken the lead and he has shown the other side of his temperament and how he can change his game and adapt to situations and play accordingly,” Sachin told PTI.

Sharma has become a senior batsman of sorts in the team and his job in the team is to provide a stable platform for the middle-order batsmen. Earlier, Rohit was used as someone who would smash the new ball to all parts of the ground; a Sehwag-like player, but his evolvement as a Test match opener with great skill and temperament is a great plus for India.

“Rohit has left the ball and defended the ball brilliantly or equally well. He was always a fantastic player but seeing his last few innings in England, I can say he has definitely gone a notch higher,” Tendulkar said.

Although Shama has always provided a stable start off late, he is yet to score that big hundred. Even in World Test Championship Final, Rohit Sharma scored in the 30s. Thus, he would be itching to get that three-figure score against his name.

“He has been a leader there and KL has supported him brilliantly. As far as playing pull shot is concerned, he has cleared the fence with that shot and I am looking at what he has been able to achieve for the team in both Tests,” Sachin added.

In the latest ICC Test Batsmen Rankings, Sharma attained a rating of 773 which is his career-best. He jumped from 54th rank in Tests to 6th. It is a testimony to Rohit's constant performances.
