Former Pak Skipper Salman Butt Thinks This Batsman Could Be India’s Successor After Kohli

The former Pakistan captain said,"...if they handed Rishabh Pant the captaincy (of Delhi Capitals), then the cricket board (BCCI) may have some plans for the future." What do you think, who could be India's next captain?

Karachi: Once a nightmare for the Indian bowlers, Pakistan's Salman Butt has opened up about his thoughts on the future captain of the Indian cricket team. He thinks along with Rahane and Rohit, Rishabh Pant, too, has a good chance of leading team India in the future. This is perhaps the first time, someone has floated Rishabh Pant's name as the next probable captain of team India. 

Salman Butt played for Pakistan from 2003 to 2010 when his career was cut short due to the allegations of match-fixing. He said that if Rishabh Pant was made captain of Delhi Capitals then BCCI "may have some plans for the future" of the Delhi batsman. 

“Along with him (Rishabh Pant), Rohit Sharma is an outstanding captain. Strategically and tactically, he’s a very good captain and I like him. Recently, India won the Test series in Australia in which Ajinkya Rahane was the captain. He also did a very nice job in Australia. Tactically, he was spot on and his decision-making was clear," said Salman Butt in his Youtube video. 

Why Rishabh Pant? 

“I am not aware of his domestic cricket (records) in-depth but from what I have seen in the IPL, if they handed Rishabh Pant the captaincy (of Delhi Capitals), then the cricket board (BCCI) may have some plans for the future. Even though Kohli is still young as he is not going anywhere for the next 8-9 years," said Salman Butt. 

Salman Butt concluded by saying that India has 3-4 players to choose from for the post of captainship and that Kohli won't lose the job for the next 8-9 years. 

“In the long run, let’s see who turns up and what kind of a scenario is created. For now, it is not a matter of discussion for Indian cricket. They have 3-4 people anyway,”
