Eng vs WI 3rd Test, Day 1: England Lose Burns And Stokes, Reach 131/4 At Tea

Windies restricted England to 131/4 at Tea in the second session of the first day of the third and final Test at Old Trafford on Friday.

Windies bowlers continued to dominate the hosts as they successfully managed to dismiss Stokes early and find a way past in-form opener Rory Burns, who looked determined to score a ton. For Windies, Kemar Roach and Roston Chase bowled brilliantly as they picked one wicket each and restricted England to 131/4 at Tea in the second session of the first day of the third and final Test at Old Trafford on Friday.

In the morning, the hosts reached 66/2 at Lunch. England opener Rory Burns and national hero Ben Stokes (7) came out in the middle to start the second session. Both batsmen looked to put in some more power to pull England back in the game.

In the 35th over, fast bowler Kemar Roach struck for the second time as he yet again provided the 'big breakthrough' for his team.

An absolute peach of a delivery from Roach pierced through the gap between the bat and pads of Stokes' (20 runs off 43 balls) to knock off his stumps. England were 92/3 after 36 overs and next came in right-handed Ollie Pope to bat.

This was followed by a fine, no-fuss half-century from Rory Burns off 126 balls. The England opener made batting look easy on a tricky track that assisted the bowlers quite well and notched up his seventh Test fifty in the process.

The bowling change from skipper Holder by introducing Roston Chase into the attack proved to be a masterstroke. Burns top-edged a short-pitched delivery from Roach that went straight to Rahkeem Cornwall, who took a sharp catch at slip to depart the English opener after a well-fought 57 off 147 balls and leave England at 122/4 after 47 overs. Pope and Buttler batted patiently to help England reach 131 for loss of four wickets after 53 overs.
