With New Zealand drawing level with England score in their regulation 50th overs. The grand finale went down to a Super Over to decide the World Cup winner

Hosts England edged New Zealand by superior boundary count in the Super Over to win the finals of the ICC World Cup 2019 and lift their title at the showpiece event. Jofra Archer, who made his England debut less than three months ago, bowled the winning Super Over in a World Cup final. With New Zealand drawing level with England's score in their regulation 50th overs. The grand finale went down to a Super Over to decide the World Cup winner. England batted first with Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler to score 15 runs in the Super Over. Needing 16 to pull off a sensational win, New Zealand with Guptill and Neesham equaled the target, but England won the title owing to superior boundary count. New Zealand were brilliant with the ball and defended what seemed to be a below par 241-run total in the regulation 50 overs at Lord's cricket ground. Matt Henry made the opening breakthrough for New Zealand scalping in-form opener Jason Roy. Medium pacer Colin Grandhomme then dismissed Joe Root cheaply to reduce England to 59 for 2. Jonny Bairstow who was looking dangerous with a breezy 36-run knock was sent back to the pavilion by Lockie Ferguson. England's headaches did not finish as skipper Eoin Morgan did not last long. The hosts got back into the game with a brilliant counter attacking partnership by Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. Just as England looked all at ease to chase down the target, Ferguson came back with a deadly spell to remove the dangerous Buttler.
Ferguson struck again to dismiss all-rounder Chris Woakes. Ben Stokes took the game deep but ran out of partners as Neesham accounted for both Liam Plunkett and Jofra Archer. Stokes remained unbeaten till the very end and helped England draw level with New Zealand's 241-run target.
