Ashes 2023 Test Series: Joe Root Takes One-Handed Stunner, Joins Rahul Dravid in Exclusive List. WATCH

Ashes 2023: Ex-England skipper Joe Root completed a stunning one-handed diving catch on Day 4 of the ongoing England vs Australia Ashes 2023 2nd Test at Lord’s to end Travis Head’s inning at 7, attain a massive milestone in Test cricket. Root's magical effort helped England turn momentum in their favour after a dream start from the visitors in the opening session as Australia's first innings lead went past the 300-run mark.

By virtue of his special catch, Joe Root attained a special feat as he joined Test legend Rahul Dravid in an elite list. Root moved to the sixth position in terms of taking the most catches by a player in Test cricket. India's Rahul Dravid is number one in this list. Root surpassed many big names in this list including England Test legend Alastair Cook. 32-year-old Root went past Cook’s record (175 catches) for maximum catches as a fielder for England in red-ball cricket.

Root now has taken 176 catches in 250 innings. Cook was earlier ahead of Root with 175 catches in 300 Test innings. Dravid is at number one in this list with 210 catches in 301 Test innings. Jayawardene is at number two with 205 catches in 270 Test innings. Jacques Kallis is at number three with 200 catches in 315 Test innings. Ricky Ponting is at number 4 with 196 catches and Steve Waugh at number five with 181 catches.

Joe Root is ranked amongst one of the best Test players of all time in England. In just 240 Test innings, Root has scored 11168 runs with 30 centuries and 58 half-centuries, including a double century and a personal best score of 254. 

Batting first, Australia scored 416 runs in their first innings on the back of a Steve Smith century. In reply, England scored 325 runs in their first innings with Duckett (98 runs) and Crawley (48 runs) making significant contributions.
