Depth in Already Formidable Pace Attack Augers Well For India Ahead Of 2020 ICC World T20
India's last two seasons in the shortest format have witnessed some promising seam talents come in the form of Deepak Chahar,Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj who have left an impression in white ball cricket and have the potential to make it big in international cricket.
There has been a paradigm shift in India's recipe for success with bowlers contributing much more meaningfully and even on subcontinent tracks. India's series clinching win against Bangladesh in the third T20I at Nagpur was yet another example of another youngster raising his hands and becoming the architect of a memorable win.
It indeed was seam bowler Deepak Chahar who bowled a terrific match winning spell (6-7) , claiming India's maiden hat-trick in men's T20I cricket and registering the best ever bowling figures in the shorter format of the game.
Just as when one thought that the cutting edge in India's T2OI pace bowling was missing due to Bumrah's injury or Bhuvneshwar Kumar's absence , Chahar bowled a game changing spell to turn the game on its head and powered the host to a clinical 30-run win and pocket the 3-match series..
A formidable Indian team across all three formats has been blessed to have seam bowling luxuries plenty in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya. Despite a power packed lineup of seamers at their disposal, they are constantly yearning to boost their already strong pace battery .
With plenty of T2OI cricket being played at the international stage and money spinning leagues all through the year, workload management citing injury concern is a much talked about subject in international cricket.
Teams need to rest their seasoned pacers in order to keep them fully fit and raring to perform at their best at the major ICC events. Hence it becomes imperative for the bench strength to be strong and come to the fore whenever called upon national duty. India's last two seasons in the shortest format have witnessed some promising seam talents come in the form of Deepak Chahar,
Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj who have left an impression in white ball cricket and have the potential to make it big in international cricket.
The same kind of depth has being witnesses in the Indian T20 spin attack where Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya and comeback king Ravindra Jadeja have pulled off impressive performances besides the bowling heroics of their lethal spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
With the next ICC T20 World Cup slated to be played on the pacy and bouncy decks in Australia, teams would need to stock up their pace arsenal with at least 5-6 quality seamers in their armoury.
Team India's build up to the flagship event has already begun with the recently concluded Bangladesh T20I series and in the absence of the injured Bumrah and Pandya, there certainly lies a great opportunity for budding seam talents to put in some noteworthy performances and make a strong case for their selection for the showpiece event Down Under .
Deepak Chahar can make the ball talk, Khaleel Ahmed has the advantage of his left arm angle and Navdeep Saini has raw pace which needs to be channelised in the right direction.Besides them, the likes of Shivam Mavi, Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel have made headwinds in junior cricket and are being carefully looked as future prospects for India in white ball cricket.
It is always good to witness a healthy competition brim within a team set-up, both in the batting or bowling ranks which keeps even the most prolific performers at the edge of their toes and work harder to stake their place in the team.
From prolific run getters in Virat and Rohit to pace spearheads in Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to a lethal spin attack; Indian cricket is spearheaded by quite a few modern day greats of the sport but at the time it ensures that youngsters emulate the feats of their seniors and auger for a bright future.
The more and more you see an Indian team winning without a Kohli or Rohit ton or a stellar spell by either Bumrah or 'Bhuvi' in T20I cricket, it showcases the prowess of a well oiled team rather than a unit banking on the brilliance a select few individual stars.
