Delhi court issues warrant against Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir was the brand ambassador of the group, which has been accused of cheating, misappropriation and conspiracy of a huge sum of money of various investors who had invested in flats in the NCR area

It’s hard to keep Gautam Gambhir away from the news. After topping the headlines for announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket barely two weeks before the IPL auction, Gambhir now finds himself in a court battle. A Delhi court on Wednesday issued a warrant against the former Indian opener for his association with Rudra Buildwell, a real estate group.

Gambhir was the brand ambassador of the group, which has been accused of cheating, misappropriation and conspiracy of a huge sum of money of various investors who had invested in flats in the NCR area, reported Times Now.

The firm apparently lured investors by Gambhir’s name, collecting crores of rupees for the project in Indirapuram. However, they failed to deliver the promises on time, prompting trouble for its director Mukesh Khurana, HR Infracity Pvt Ltd (director Gautam Mehta) and Gambhir himself.

Gambhir, for his part, tried his best to distance himself from the situation by making it clear that he was a mere a brand ambassador and had no knowledge about the wrongdoing of the firm.

The Saket court not only rejected Gambhir’s plea but also issued a warrant against him for failing to appear in front of the court. The Real Estate Regulatory Authority authorities have also termed Rudra Group as defaulters due to delay in projects.

Gambhir recently announced retirement from drawing curtains on a nearly two-decade-long professional career. He signed off after scoring a century on his last competitive game against Andhra Pradesh. Gambhir represented India in  India in 58 Test matches, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is. The Delhi batsman scored 4154, 5238 and 932 runs respectively in the three formats.
