'I Couldn’t See The Red Flags': Shikhar Dhawan Opens Up On His Failed Marriage With Aesha Mukerji
Dhawan and Melbourne-based Ayesha Mukerji got married in 2012 but went separate ways in September 2021.
India and Punjab Kings star Shikhar Dhawan is known for his calm and cool behaviour. He is more often than not seen donning a smile and loves to enjoy himself on and off the field. Despite the struggles that he has had to go through both on and off the pitch, Dhawan looks to learn from his past and takes ownership of his failures.
In a recent interview, Dhawan opened up on his failed marriage. Not pointing fingers on anyone, he said that he was himself responsible for the marriage that didn't work out and he and his wife Aesha Mukerji had to part ways.
Notably, Dhawan had fallen in love with Melbourne-based Aesha Mukerji who was 12 years elder to him. They tied the knot in 2012. The couple went separate ways in September 2021. They have one son from their marriage Zoravar, who was born in December 2014.
"I failed because the final decision is the person’s own. I don’t point fingers at others. I failed because I was not aware of that field. The things I talk about cricket today, I wouldn’t have been aware of the same 20 years back. It comes with experience," Dhawan said on Aaj Tak.
“Right now my divorce case is going on. Tomorrow, if I want to marry again, I will be much more wiser in that field. I’ll know what kind of girl I need; someone whom I can spend my life with. When I was 26-27 and I was continuously playing, I was not in any relationship. I used to have fun, but was never in a relationship," he added.
“So, when I fell in love, I couldn’t see the red flags. But today, if I fall in love, I will be able to see those red flags. So, if I see those red flags, I will walk out. If not, I will carry on,” he said.
He advised the youngsters to not take relationships in haste. He said that it's okay if it's taking time to find the partner who you can spend the rest of your life with but one shouldn't take emotional decision and get married.
Dhawan will be at the helm of affairs for Punjab Kings in the forthcoming IPL season, beginning on March 31.
