BCCI Shares Update On Mohammed Shami's Rehab Plan After Pacer's Successful Heel Surgery

Mohammed Shami recently underwent a successful heel surgery in the United Kingdom (UK).

Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the ODI World Cup 2023. The right arm fast bowler, who finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker in the marquee ICC event last year with 24 wickets in 7 matches, played through pain but never let that impact his performances. Post the tournament though, he has been on the sidelines and recently underwent a successful heel surgery in the United Kingdom (UK).

In an official statement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Shami's post-surgery rehab will happen at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) facility in Bangalore. BCCI's statement came in their squad announcement for the fifth Test against England set to undergo at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, Dharamsala on March 7 (Thursday).

"Mohd. Shami successfully underwent a surgery on 26th February, 2024 for his right heel problem. He is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation process," BCCI's statement read.

Mohammed Shami Shares Social Media Post After Successful Heel Surgery

Shami shared a social media post in which he gave an update to his fans post regarding his heel surgery.

"Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami wrote in a post dated Februaru 27 (Tuesday).

The surgery has effectively ruled Shami out of IPL 2024. The Gujarat Titans (GT) star is unlikely to play any further cricket action till the end of the year. His franchise is yet to officially announcement his replacement.
