BCCI May Consider Reducing Number Of Venues For West Indies Series In Feb Due To Covid-19: Report

The PTI report mentioned that given the situation of Covid in the country at this stage, the BCCI might look to reduce the number of venues to three to avoid travel.

The number of Covid-19 cases in India is on the rise and the country is perhaps tackling the third Covid wave. Amid such an atmosphere, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to reduce the number of venues that will host the India vs West Indies series in the next month.

West Indies will be traveling to India for three ODI and three T20I series in the first week of February. The first ODI is scheduled to be played on February 6, 2022 at Ahmedabad.

Apart from Ahmedabad, the other venues which are scheduled to host the matches are Jaipur, Kolkata, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. Jaipur and Kolkata along with Ahmedabad are slated to host the ODIs while Cuttack, Vizag and Trivandrum will host three T20Is.

"Nothing has been decided as of now. This is a fluid situation and we are keeping an eye on the situation, and we will take a call at appropriate time," a senior BCCI official told PTI.

The PTI report mentioned that given the situation of Covid in the country at this stage, the BCCI might look to reduce the number of venues to three to avoid travel.

The West Indies team is scheduled to undergo three-day isolation after landing in Ahmedabad on February 1.

This year, the Ranji Trophy 201-22 season was slated to start from January 13 fears of a third wave due to Omicron variant of COVID-19 forced BCCI to postpone the domestic cricket tournament.
