Ajinkya Rahane Says, 'Someone Else Took Credit' After Historic 2-1 Series Victory In Australia
Many credited Rahane for leading the team to a 2-1 series win, but, in the latest interview, he said that some tried to take credit away from him.
Ajinkya Rahane, in an interview, has made some startling claims, saying that "someone else took credit" for the decisions he took during the historic Test series win in Australia in the 2020-21 series.
“I know what I’ve done there. I don’t need to tell anyone. That’s not my nature to go and take credit. Yes, there were some things that I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took the credit for it,” Rahane said in an episode of ‘Backstage With Boria’. “That was a historical series and for me, that was really special," he added.
India vs Australia 2020-21 was an epic series, from India's point of view. Team India made a heroic comeback after losing the first Test in an embarrassing fashion. Ajinkya Rahane led the team as Virat Kohli had taken a leave.
In the fourth Gabba Test, India chased down 328 in the last innings and recorded India's third-highest successful chase in Test match cricket. India scored a whopping 324 runs on the final day of the Brisbane Test.
Many credited Rahane for leading the team to a 2-1 series win, but, in the latest interview, he said that some tried to take credit away from him.
“After that, the reactions from people or those who took credit or what was said on the media, ‘I did this’ or ‘This was my decision’, or ‘This was my call’, it was for them to talk about,” Rahane said.
“Yes, we talked with the management too but I used to laugh about it, that is what I did on the field, I never talk much about myself or praise myself. But what I did there, I knew," he concluded.
Rahane has been in poor form of late. In 2021, he played 13 Tests and scored only 479 runs at an average of 20.82.
