AFG vs SA 1st ODI game is notable as it will be the 250th ODI held at this iconic venue, making Sharjah Cricket Stadium the first ground in the world to reach this milestone.

The first ODI at Sharjah Cricket Ground took place in 1984. That match took place between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on April 6, 1984.

Sharjah is not only the first venue to host 250 ODIs but also the only ground to have hosted over 200 ODIs. The second venue on the list is Harare Sports Club, with 182 ODIs played.

It is followed by Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, which has hosted 182 ODIs. The Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia has staged 161 ODIs, while the Melbourne Cricket Ground, also in Australia, has seen 151 matches. R Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka matches this figure, also hosting 151 ODIs.

Although Sharjah has become a popular venue for ODIs, it has hosted only four Test matches and 38 T20Is.

After a rain-affected washout against New Zealand in their one-off Test at Greater Noida, Afghanistan is now set to face South Africa in a three-match ODI series.

South Africa chose to bat first after winning the toss on a hot day at Sharjah Cricket Ground. Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi are opening the batting, with regular captain Temba Bavuma missing due to illness. Aiden Markram is leading the team in his place.
