IND Vs SL: In the second match of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka, fans got to see fierce competition. Team India, however, managed to win the match by three wickets, courtesy Deepak Chahar's unbeaten 69. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, however, credited Rahul Dravid for the victory. Bhuvi says that Dravid had played the masterstroke of letting Chahar bat at number 8 and it proved to be the game-changer for team India.
Apart from playing an unbeaten 69, Chahar shared an unbroken 84-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Bhuvneshwar. Bhuvi returned unbeaten to the pavilion after scoring 19 runs and help India get a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Bhuvneshwar said after the match, "Our target was to play the last over, till the last ball, so we wanted to take the match to the end. The only plan was to play till the end and the way Deepak batted was fantastic."
Dravid already knew that Deepak Chahar had the ability to bat. Team India's vice-captain said, "Deepak Chahar has played under coach Rahul Dravid for India A or some series and he scored runs there as well. So Dravid knew he could bat so it was Dravid's decision."
Rahul Dravid is extremely happy
Deepak Chahar, however, has proved his mettle with the bat in the Ranji Trophy as well. Bhuvneshwar said, "The way Chahar batted, it proved Dravid's bets right. We all know he can bat, he has batted many times in the Ranji Trophy."
Chasing Sri Lanka's target of 276 runs, India lost seven wickets for 193 runs. Chahar and Bhuvi, however, gave India the victory with five balls to spare.
Bhuvneshwar said that Dravid, who is coaching the senior team for the first time, is extremely happy with the team's performance. The fast bowler said, "Dravid congratulated the entire team. He was very happy, especially with the way we performed. When we lost five-six wickets and after that the way Deepak batted."
Rahul Dravid has been given the responsibility of coaching the team in Sri Lanka as Team India head coach Ravi Shastri is on a tour of England. Rahul Dravid has previously been the coach of India Under 19 and India A.
