Bengal spinner Saurashish Lahiri, who dismissed Sachin Tendulkar twice in a match, announces retirement

Kolkata: Dismissing the iconic Sachin Tendulkar in both the innings of the Ranji Super League final in 2006-07 will remain the "greatest moment" in offspinner Saurasish Lahiri's first-class career spanning 17 years. Lahiri on Thursday announced his retirement from first-class cricket. "Both the dismissals happened in the zone and I could not have asked for more," Lahiri told a packed news conference sitting alongside his former captains Sourav Ganguly, Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Manoj Tiwary. The scorecard read: Tendulkar c Shukla b Lahiri 105 and Tendulkar c Tiwary b Lahiri 43, as the 1989-90 champions had come close to winning the coveted title one last time before being overwhelmed by 132 runs in the Ranji final in February. Lahiri's dogged 48 not out in his 100th first-class match was instrumental in Bengal securing a draw against Madhya Pradesh, a result that had helped his state avoid relegation to group B in 2014-15. But ironically it happened to be Lahiri's last first-class match for Bengal as he went out of favour in 2015-16 with Bengal roping in former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. "Yes, initially it was disappointing. But I've no regrets. I am really overwhelmed by the way they have stood by me. I could not have asked for more." On his post retirement plan, Lahiri said he would switch to coaching.
