Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray was quoted as saying that the union government should not have asked major personalities like Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar to tweet in support of its stand and put their reputation at stake. They're recipients of Bharat Ratna".
"Actors like Akshay Kumar were enough for this task," he quipped.
Earlier, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar had advised Tendulkar to be "cautious".
"Many ordinary people are reacting angrily to the statements of Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. Therefore, I would advise Sachin to be cautious when speaking about issues outside of his own field," said Sharad Pawar in Marathi while speaking at a program in Pune.
These reactions have arrived in reaction to this tweet by the cricketer legend where he wrote, "India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised".
A debate erupted as users were divided into factions in support and against the tweet.
A section of people believes that popstar Rihanna, climate activist Greta Thunberg and US VP Kamala Harris' niece Meena Harris should not be talking about the farmers' protest terming it an "internal" matter, which the other group contends that human rights violation in reference to suspending electricity, water and internet supplies at protest sites is a matter that can be addressed by anyone in any part of the world.
So Sachin's tweet was also scrutinised on the lines of the debate where on one hand people brought up his contribution to Indian Cricket while others questioned how talking about human rights compromises India's sovereignty.
