After Asian C'ships win, wrestler Navjot Kaur eyes Tokyo Olympics

New Delhi [India], March 4 (ANI): Navjot Kaur, the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships, has now set her eyes on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old wrestler from Punjab scripted history when she beat Miya Imai of Japan 9-1 in the women's 65 kg freestyle category finals of the event at Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.

"It was a great moment for me. The people of the country and coaches had been waiting for long to see someone winning gold in the Asian Wrestling Championships. The team is very happy and so am I," Kaur told ANI.

She added, "Now I am focused on Asian Games and Tokyo Olympics 2020 and will prepare hard for it."

As Kaur brought pride to the country, her parents said that their dream has come true. They credited the win to Kaur's hard work.

Navjeet, Kaur's sister, said, "This victory is a message for all the girls that they should come forward to participate and excel more in sports."

India finished with one gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships.

Vinesh Phogat and Pinki of the Indian Railways claimed silver medals, while Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik won a bronze in the 62-kg category.(ANI)
