As the countdown begins for one of India's most significant space milestones in decades, pride and anticipation fill the air in the heart of Lucknow. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a name that is now echoing across the city, is all set to etch his mark in history as he joins Axiom Space’s fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission is targeting 2.31am Eastern Time (around noon IST) from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, marking a major moment for India in global space exploration.

Lucknow Unites In Pride

In the lanes of Lucknow, Shubhanshu Shukla’s home has turned into a site of celebration and pride. Posters bearing his image now adorn the walls, streets, and corners of his neighbourhood that symbolises a community united in joy and admiration. His father, Shambhu Dayal Shukla, overwhelmed with emotion, shared the family’s sentiments with warmth and conviction.

“We are very proud of him, not just the family, but the whole country,” he said. “The country's space mission is being sent after 40 years… It feels good that people are talking about my son, and his posters are being put up everywhere.”

With only hours left before lift-off, the Shukla household remains hopeful and focused. “We are constantly praying to God for his well-being and the success of his mission,” his father added, “He has been preparing for this for a long time… He always performs all his tasks to perfection.”

Despite the magnitude of the mission, the family exhibits an unshakable calm. “We are not scared at all,” Shambhu Dayal said firmly. “He is ready to face all that comes his way.”
