Narak Chaturdashi 2024: Also known as Choti Diwali, Narak Chaturdashi will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, 2024. In Hindu tradition, this festival is observed annually on the Chaturdashi tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month. It is celebrated a day before Diwali and is also referred to as Roop Chaudas and Kali Chaturthi. According to legend, on this day, Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasur and liberated 16,000 women from his captivity.

According to the Hindu calendar, Panchang, the Chaturdashi tithi of Kartik month will begin on October 30 at 1:15 PM and end on October 31 at 3:52 PM. Therefore, based on the Udaya Tithi, Narak Chaturdashi will be celebrated on October 31, 2024. On this day, Lord Yama, the god of death, is also worshipped, and lamps are lit in homes. It is important to follow specific rituals and traditions on this occasion.

Things To Do On Narak Chaturdashi 2024

  • On this day, make sure to bathe before sunrise and apply a tilak on your forehead.
  • Light a lamp in the name of Yama on Narak Chaturdashi, as worshiping Yama is believed to ward off the fear of untimely death.
  • Massage your entire body with oil and then bathe. It is said that on Chaturdashi, Goddess Lakshmi resides in the oil, and those who do this receive the blessings of the goddesses.
  • It is considered auspicious to worship Lord Krishna on this day, and doing so fulfills all desires.
  • On this day, 14 lamps are lit and placed in different parts of the house.

Things To Avoid On Narak Chaturdashi 2024

  • On Narak Chaturdashi, Lord Yama, the god of death, is worshipped. Therefore, no living being should be harmed or killed on this day.
  • The southern part of the house should not be kept unclean on this day.
  • Donating oil on this day is also prohibited, as it is believed to anger Goddess Lakshmi.
  • Consumption of non-vegetarian food should be strictly avoided on this day.
  • You should not sleep late on this day, as it is said to displease Goddess Lakshmi and invite poverty into the home.
