Mauni Amavasya 2025: In Hinduism, the Amavasya date holds great significance. Taking a ritual bath in a sacred river on this day is considered highly beneficial. The Amavasya that falls in the month of Magha in 2025 is known as Maghi Amavasya or Mauni Amavasya. Since it occurs in the middle of the Magha month, it is also referred to as Maghi Amavasya.

According to the Hindu calendar, Mauni Amavasya is considered an auspicious and important day for taking a dip in the Ganges. If you are going to take a bath during the Kumbh Mela, Mauni Amavasya is an extremely auspicious day for it. In Prayagraj, Mauni Amavasya is the most important day for Ganga Snan, which is known as Amrit Yoga Day. Devotees can perform bathing and charity at the Sangam in Prayagraj.

Mauni Amavasya is also a day of silence in Hinduism, where people observe silence and fasting. By doing so, individuals follow a one-day fast. This day is considered the best for worshipping Lord Sun and seeking blessings from ancestors.

  • The Amavasya tithi will begin on January 28, 2025, at 7:25 PM.
  • The Amavasya tithi will end on January 29, 2025, at 6:05 PM.
  • This year, Mauni Amavasya falls on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Auspicious Timing For Bathing

On the day of Mauni Amavasya, if you are going for a bath, the Brahma Muhurat from 5:25 AM to 6:18 AM is considered very auspicious for bathing. After that, you can perform charity and good deeds. Taking a bath and giving donations on this day is believed to lead to liberation, moksha.

On this day, the water of the Ganga River is considered equivalent to nectar. Therefore, bathing in the Ganges on this Amavasya is considered auspicious and highly beneficial.

Mauni Amavasya 2025 Pujan Vidhi 

  • Take a bath in a holy river during the Brahma Muhurat on this day.
  • If you're unable to go for a bath, mix Ganga water with regular water at home and take a bath.
  • After the bath, meditate on Lord Vishnu.
  • Take a vow for the fast.
  • Worship Lord Vishnu and seek the blessings of Tulsi Mata.
  • Perform the proper worship and rituals of the Peepal tree.
  • Meditate on your ancestors to seek their blessings, and donate to those in need.
