As per legend, Goddess Parvati first observed this fast to attain Lord Shiv as her divine consort.

Kokila Vrat is traditionally observed on the Purnima of the Ashadh month. On this day, Goddess Parvati is worshipped in the symbolic form of a ‘Kokila’ or cuckoo. In 2025, Kokila Vrat will be observed on 10 July, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
