Karwa Chauth 2024 Rules: The auspicious festival of Karwa Chauth symbolises a blissful marital life for husbands and wives. On this day, women observe a Nirjala Vrat for the long life of their husbands. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

While observing the Karwa Chauth fast, women adorn themselves with solah shringar which mean, sixteen adornments, worship Goddess Karwa, and break their fast only after sighting the moon and offering arghya to it, followed by looking at their husband's face through a sieve. However, different states have various customs for celebrating Karwa Chauth, so it is essential to follow your traditions, rituals, and rules while observing the fast.

Nonetheless, adhering to the rules outlined in the scriptures is necessary for everyone. There are specific important rules for Karwa Chauth that everyone should follow, as even a small mistake, whether intentional or not, can break the fast. Rules Of Karwa Chauth

  • Don’t Eat Anything After Sargi: The Karwa Chauth fast is observed Nirjala (without water). Therefore, do not eat anything after having Sargi. Make sure to have Sargi before sunrise and only consume food and water after moonrise at night.
  • Include These Items In Your Adornments: While there is significance in performing 16 adornments for Karwa Chauth, if you cannot do all, at least include mehndi, sindoor, mangalsutra, bangles, bindi, and bichiya or toe ring among the six essential items.
  • Do Not Break The Fast Without Moon Sightings: The Karwa Chauth fast should only be broken after sighting the moon. Therefore, after offering arghya to the moon and performing the worship at night, only then should you break your fast.
  • Use An Earthen Karwa: During Karwa Chauth, the arghya should be offered to the moon using only an earthen karwa. Do not use any other vessel like a pitcher or pot for offering. This is because clay symbolizes the earth element.
  • Make Sure To Donate: Along with performing the rituals for Karwa Chauth, donating on this day holds significant importance. Therefore, the fasting woman should offer the adornment items in the worship and donate suhag (married women's essentials) to another married woman the next day.
  • Pay Attention To Direction: While performing the Karwa Chauth puja, special attention should be given to the direction. Your face should be towards the north, while your back should be towards the west during the worship.
