Guru Purnima 2025: Guru Purnima was celebrated across the country on July 10. The festival is observed every year on the full moon day of the month of Ashadha. It is believed that Maharishi Ved Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata and all 18 Puranas, was born on this day. Hence, the day is dedicated to the worship of gurus and is also referred to as Vyas Purnima.
Ved Vyasa is regarded as the first guru. On this occasion, the Guru Purnima festival was celebrated at the Yog Bhavan Auditorium located at Patanjali Wellness, Yogpeeth-2, under the guidance of Patanjali Yogpeeth’s Founder and President Swami Ramdev and General Secretary Acharya Balkrishna.
What Did Swami Ramdev Say?
During the event, Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna exchanged garlands and extended Guru Purnima greetings to one another. Addressing the gathering, Swami Ramdev said that Guru Purnima is a festival that establishes Sanatan Dharma. He further said it is a celebration that brings completeness to India’s glorious guru-disciple tradition and eternal cultural heritage.
Ramdev remarked that within the Vedas and guru dharma lies the essence of national duty. He stated that the current global scenario is witnessing a struggle for dominance, but this dominance should be rooted in truth, yoga, spirituality, and justice.
Acharya Balkrishna Highlights the Importance of Guru Purnima
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Balkrishna explained that Guru Purnima is a festival that reflects the guru-disciple tradition. However, he added that this tradition holds true meaning only when one follows their guru’s path with complete faith.
He emphasised that India will attain the status of a global leader through its traditions of guru-disciple lineage, yoga, Ayurveda, Sanatan Dharma, and Vedic wisdom.
