Elephant Falls- The stunning Elephant Falls were named 'Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew' by the indigenous Khasi people, which translates to 'The Three Step Waterfalls,' since they comprise three mesmerizing falls in succession. The first of three waterfalls is tucked between the deep trees and is quite wide. The second waterfall is reduced to thin strands of water in the winter due to declining water levels, and the third and tallest waterfall is the most noticeable, with clear water running like a film of milk on the black rocks in the background. This is the one that is generally regarded as the most stunning by visitors. (Image Source: Twitter/@tourismgoi)

Umiam Lake- It is formed as a result of the construction of a dam to generate hydroelectric power. The picturesque Umiam Lake is surrounded by lush green East Khasi hills, creating one of the best panoramic views in the country for nature enthusiasts. The sunrise over the lake is spectacular and should not be missed. Apart from the peace and quiet that Umiam Lake provides, one can also see the daily lives of the locals who come to the lake in search of twigs and grass, as well as the fisherman who canoe in the motionless waters. During the summer, the coastlines are ornamented by lovely Gulmohar. (Image Source: Getty)
