AAP's Satyendar Jain Files Civil Defamation Suit Against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj
In his petition, Jain has alleged that the BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj falsely claimed that ₹3 crore in cash, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain has filed a civil defamation suit against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj. The hearing in the case has been postponed to April 14.
The AAP leader has filed the defamation suit seeking ₹1 as compensation from Bansuri Swaraj, whom he has accused of attempting to malign his image during a television interview which was aired on October 5, 2023, which was watched by "millions".
He alleged that the BJP MP falsely claimed that ₹3 crore in cash, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence. Jain said Swaraj further defamed him by calling him "corrupt" and a "fraud".
Jain further said that the remarks were made to gain undue political advantage and has impacted his image in public.
The development comes just two days after the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court dismissed the criminal defamation case filed by Jain against Bansuri Swaraj in the same matter.
Following his complaint, the matter was listed for hearing on February 20 at the Delhi Rouse Avenue court. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal junked the complaint on Thursday and said that there are insufficient grounds for taking cognisance of the offence punishable under Section 356 of the BNS.
"No other offence appears to be made out from the complaint and documents annexed therewith. Accordingly, cognisance in the present case is declined," the court noted.
In the complaint, Jain had also alleged that the BJP MP tarnished his reputation, and that the smear campaign affected him deeply in various roles such as a husband, father, friend, brother, and member of society, apart from scarring his political image.
AAP's Somnath Bharti had also approached the Delhi High Court against Swaraj's win in the Lok Sabha elections from the New Delhi constituency, alleging that she emerged victorious due to "corrupt practices".
