Ideas Of India 2025: Piyush Goyal Says US Tariffs Not A Concern, 'Industry Sees Tremendous Opportunities In This'

Elaborating on the sentiment in amongst industry stakeholders in the country, Goyal stressed that ‘everyone is bullish and confident’.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday talked about the relationship between India and US. The Minister of Commerce and Industry dismissed any concerns about the new tariffs under US President Donald Trump’s administration and said that India and the US are allies.

Speaking at ABP Network's Ideas of India 2025 Summit in Mumbai, the minister said, “Both Indians and Americans have a very strong relationship and bond. The industrial sector in the country sees tremendous possibilities with Trump coming to power in the US. India and US are not in competition with each other.”

Elaborating on the sentiment in amongst industry stakeholders in the country, Goyal stressed that ‘everyone is bullish and confident’. He noted that both the countries are at very different stages of development and compliment each other. “MAGA + MIGA together form a mega partnership for prosperity. The things that we can make are not available in the US and vice-versa. We can work together to multiply the force," the minister added.

'We Are Not Anti-Imports': Piyush Goyal

Talking about the entry of Elon Musk’s Tesla in India, Goyal said that India is open to everyone. The minister noted that every company in the world who wish to operate and manufacture in India and capitalise on the country’s competitive strengths and skilled workforce are more than welcome to establish their operations in India.

Goyal stressed that the Indian government is not ‘anti-imports’. "Where we have competitive strength, we will build it here, where others have it better, they can make it and we will bring it from there. This is how in the next 20-22 years, india will become a $30-35 trillion economy," he added.

Indian Farmers And BJP

He stressed that Indian farmers are satisfied with the efforts of their government. Unlike other parties, he added, that the PM makes no fake promises. “PM Modi has a speciality, he does what he says and he never says anything that he will not do. Our PM has a track record of delivering on promises,” Goyal stated.

The minister noted, "I think if Indian farmers were unhappy with us, then we would not be successful in the elections. This tells us that Indian farmers are satisfied with PM Narendra Modi and his government."

He added that the every single penny of the taxpayer has been accounted for under PM Modi’s administration. “This government wants to see 140 crore Indians ready to dream big and contribute to make India a developed country by 2047,” he noted.
