'Hands Off': Thousands Protest Against Trump Across US

Thousands protested Trump's policies in numerous US cities and internationally, expressing concerns about government cuts, immigration, human rights, and foreign policy changes.

Thousands of people gathered in Washington DC's National Mall and other cities across the United States to protest against President Donald Trump's policies.

The "Hands Off!" protests were organised at over 1,200 locations in all 50 states across the country by more than 150 groups including civil rights organisations, labour unions, LGBTQ+ advocates, veterans and election activists. Associated Press reported that there were no immediate arrests and the demonstrations seemed peaceful.

The demonstrators protested against various policies of Trump and Elon Musk including government downsizing, the economy, immigration and human rights. On the West Coast, protestors held signs with slogans reading "Fight the oligarchy."

'Not My President'

People voiced their anger over the Trump's administration moves to fire thousands of federal workers, close Social Security Administration field offices, effectively shutter entire agencies, deport immigrants, scale back protections for transgender people and cut funding for health programs.

Protestors held signs that read "Not My President!", "Fascism has Arrived," "Stop Evil," and "Hands Off Our Social Security," reported AFP.

Gatherings were also held in other international capitals including Paris, London, and Berlin against the Trump administration's decision to impose import tariffs on most countries around the world.

Democratic lawmakers also took part in the protests in Washington DC. Their remarks focused on the role played by wealthy donors in the Trump administration, most notably by Musk. Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost denounced the "billionaire takeover of our government".

'Hands Off Canada, Greenland, Ukraine'

"When you steal from the people, expect the people to rise. At the ballot box and in the streets," he shouted.

In London, the protestors raised signs reading, "WTAF America?", "Stop hurting people" and "He's an idiot".

They shouted slogans "Hands off Canada", "Hands off Greenland" and "Hands off Ukraine". The slogans referred to Trump's changes to US foreign policy and his repeated interest in annexing Canada and Greenland.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris thanked the protestors for using their voice to stand against the policies of Trump.

"Today in every state across our nation, Americans are standing up to the administration as they implement Project 2025 at full speed," she said in a post on X.

"Thank you for using your voices and the power of protest to stand for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; for the Department of Education and programs like Head Start; for clean air and water; for the right to make decisions about your own body without government interference. The voices of working people will always be louder than the unelected billionaires," she added.
