'Factories In China, Workers From India': Trump Slams US Big Tech Firms For ‘Profiting Abroad'

President Trump criticised major US tech companies for exploiting American freedoms by outsourcing jobs to China and India, minimising taxes in Ireland, and censoring US citizens.

In a pointed rebuke of major technology firms, US President Donald Trump accused some of the country’s largest tech companies of exploiting American freedoms while outsourcing jobs and minimising taxes overseas.

“Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom,” Trump said, “while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India, and slashing profits in Ireland.”

He argued that while these corporations enjoy the benefits of the American system, they simultaneously silence voices at home. “All the while, they’ve dismissed and even censored their fellow citizens right here in the United States,” he claimed.

Trump made it clear that such practices would no longer be tolerated under his leadership. “Under President Trump, those days are over,” he declared, drawing applause from the crowd. “And you know that. Everybody knows that. Everyone in this room certainly does.”

The Republican leader's comment comes as the August 1 deadline for imposing reciprocal tariffs on nearly 60 countries nears, with some countries racing to reach a deal to lower the impact.

Trump had expressed his reservations about tech companies outsourcing their labour to other countries earlier as well.

In May, he said he told Apple CEO Tim Cook that he doesn’t want the tech giant to build its products in India, taking shots at the company’s moves to diversify production away from China and urging him to pivot stateside. This was in reference to Apple's commitment of a $500 billion investment in the U.S., which was announced in February.

“I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” Trump said. “I said to him, ‘My friend, I treated you very well. You’re coming here with $500 billion, but now I hear you’re building all over India.’ I don’t want you building in India.”

“I said to Tim, I said, ‘Tim look, we treated you really good, we put up with all the plants that you build in China for years, now you got build us. We’re not interested in you building in India, India can take care of themselves ... we want you to build here,’” Trump said.
