Negotiations Between Russia, Ukraine To Begin Immediately: Trump After Call With Putin
Shortly after his call with Putin, which lasted for two hours, Donald Trump said that the two countries will immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire and to end the war in Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump on Monday said that the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the war in Ukraine will start "immediately". The US President made the announcement shortly after speaking to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Shortly after his call with Putin, which lasted for two hours, Donald Trump said that the two countries will immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire and to end the war in Ukraine.
"Just completed my two hour call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War. The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of. The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"If it wasn’t, I would say so now, rather than later. Russia wants to do largescale TRADE with the United States when this catastrophic “bloodbath” is over, and I agree. There is a tremendous opportunity for Russia to create massive amounts of jobs and wealth. Its potential is UNLIMITED. Likewise, Ukraine can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately," Trump added.
He further said he has informed Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, EU President Ursula von der Leyen, French President President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, about the conversation with Putin.
Russian President Putin said the conversation with Trump was “frank and substantive,” TASS reported. The report also said that Putin “expressed his position on the ceasefire during the conversation.”
Putin also reportedly thanked Trump for US support in “resuming the direct talks between Russia and Ukraine” following the high stakes phone call.
Earlier in the day, US Vice President JD Vance told reporters that Trump will be asking Putin if he is "serious" about bringing peace in Ukraine.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump has grown weary and frustrated with both sides of the conflict and added that his goal is to see a ceasefire and to see this conflict come to an end, CNN reported.
