'The Enemy Has Made A Big Mistake': Khamenei's 1st Reactions After US Strikes

The strikes, carried out on Sunday, included 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs dropped near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a strong warning following the recent US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, declaring that both Israel and the United States will face severe consequences for what he described as reckless provocations.

The strikes, carried out on Sunday, included 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs dropped near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, marking one of the most significant US military actions against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Khamenei Responds On X: "The Punishment Continues"

In his first public reaction to the strikes, Khamenei posted a stern message on X, "The punishment continues. The Zionist enemy has made a big mistake, committed a big crime; it must be punished and it is being punished; it is being punished right now.”

His statement underscores Iran’s escalating posture amid rising regional tensions, with growing fears of a broader confrontation involving major powers.

President Masoud Pezeshkian also condemned the US attack, calling it an act of aggression and asserting that America must face the consequences.

“The Americans must receive a response to their aggression,” he said during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance that it would not tolerate military threats to its sovereignty, especially concerning its nuclear infrastructure.

Iran Takes Its Case To UN

In a diplomatic escalation, Iran called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Sunday. During the session, Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani accused the US and Israel of destroying the path to diplomacy, stating that Washington’s claims were baseless.

He further alleged that the nuclear non-proliferation treaty has been “manipulated into a political weapon,” undermining global non-proliferation goals and escalating conflict in the region.

As the dust settles from the US strikes, Iran's response, military, diplomatic, or both, is expected to shape the geopolitical narrative in the days ahead.
