Taiwan Defence Official Found Dead In Hotel Room Amid Conflict With China: Report

The Deputy Chief of Taiwan's defence ministry's research and development branch was discovered dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning, as per the official central news agency, Reuters reported.

The deputy chairman of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, which is controlled by the military, Ou Yang Li-hsing, was discovered dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan early on Saturday, according to CNA. It said that investigators were investigating into the death's cause.

According to CNA, Ou Yang visited the southern county of Pingtung on a business trip. He was appointed to the position at the beginning of the year to oversee various missile production projects.

As the island increases its battle capabilities in response to what it perceives as China's rising military threat, the military-owned organization is trying to more than quadruple its yearly missile manufacturing capacity to close to 500 this year.

Taiwan Accuses China Of Simulating Attack 

Taiwan on Saturday accused the Chinese army of simulating an attack on its main island while Beijing amps up its retaliation for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei following its announcement on a suspension of cooperation with Washington on key issues.

China on Friday announced that it would withdraw from a series of talks and cooperation agreements with Washington which include matters of climate change and defence cooperation.

As Beijing on Saturday continued its largest-ever military drills around Taiwan, the capital Taipei stated that it observed "multiple" Chinese planes and ships operating in the Taiwan Strait, news agency AFP reported. Taipei believed them to be simulating an attack on its main island.
